about us
We all know that parents play a critical role in children’s learning, particularly during the primary years. Research also shows that most parents are aware of their importance and want to do their best to help their children.
Ampersand Learning was started in 2007 by Clio Whittaker to bring high-quality family learning experiences to a wider range of schools, organisations, parents and children.
Clio has been involved with parents and schools for many years. Her experience as a governor and parent representative in the London Borough of Camden convinced her that children's achievements are powerfully affected by the extent to which parents are involved with their children. She trained as a family learning tutor and has since taught at the Parent House in Islington, and in many primary schools in Camden, Tower Hamlets and the City of London.
Clio has trained volunteers to help support children with reading in more than 30 primary schools. She is the author of the children’s guide to the British Museum.
